Abstract

The article deals with the art of the famous Belgian surrealist artist René Magritte in communicative aspect. A painting and its title are considered as the special type of a text in which speech persuasive potential is realized. Conceptual bases of the research are the theory of interpretation by Y.M. Lotman, the theory of dialogue by M.M. Bakhtin and the idea of empathic, fascinative perception of a text. The author proves the major fascinative means of Magritte's paintings are metaphor and paradox.
