Abstract

The report is dedicated to the First International academic conference "Media, Communication and Journalism: Prospects and Challenges in Bangladesh and Beyond" that took place at the University of Chittagong, Republic of Bangladesh. Faculty of communication and journalism that was in charge of the event has 21 Lecturers and provides education for more than 400 students.

Higher education in the field of journalism is established in Bangladesh since 1962 0 approximately at the same period when USSR founded first courses in journalism in universities. Now 8 state Universities of Bangladesh prepare workers for media sphere, as well as many private institutions.

The conference collected media scholars of major Bangladesh Universities, as well as media scholars from India, Pakistan, Bhutan, United Kingdom, Germany, China, Malaysia, Nepal, Russia and the USA.

One of the common topics, among others, was journalistic education in Bangladesh. These were strongly connected with the current trends of development of the media sphere. Bangladesh specific topics, such as the Rohingya refugee crisis, were also widely addressed.

During the conference two sessions for students and young researchers also took place.
