Fake: From Academic Discussion to Practical Solutions

Keywords: new media, false information, misinformation, disinformation, fake, fake news

Abstract

The concept of fake is one of the central, mainstream in research of media processes, media culture, media content and media literacy these days. Being a problem node in current theoretical discussions, the process of industrial norms development and restrictions at the intersection of interests of various actors and platforms, fake is still not a concept that has been fully understood and clarified, despite the efforts of entire research teams to study it. This work, created within the framework of academic partnership with Yandex.Zen, not only clarifies the thesaurus associated with the problem of media misinformation / disinformation / incorrect information in the XXI century or identifies approaches to the typology of this phenomenon, but it also emphasizes the role of computer algorithms in the ongoing struggle with fake news and suggests an overview of the academic and industrial projects in the research and identification of fakes.
