Report on the First International Symposium on the History of Communication Studies “In Memory of Wilbur Schramm”

Abstract

I International Symposium on the History of Communication Studies "In Memory of Wilbur Schramm" was held at National Research University - Higher School of Economics (Moscow, Russia) on 16-17th November 2017.

The initiative of the symposium was offered by the editorial staff of online academic journal "Communications. Media. Design" (published by the Faculty of communications, media and design, Higher School of Economics). The Editor-in-Chief, Andrey Bystrytskiy, opened the first day of the symposium by the greeting speech for colleagues and guests of Higher School of Economics, giving the framework of the topics for discussion and interlinking the past of communication research with the future of this academic field.

Several major academic institutions of Russia became co-organizers of the symposium. Including Faculties of Higher School of Economics (Faculty of communications, media and design, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs), the co-organizers are:
