Abstract

The article focuses on the professional identity of Russian journalists. The empirical base is formed on the material of the profiles (pages) of journalists in the social network Facebook. The list of names was compiled on the basis of ratings of the most quoted journalists of the company "Medialogia".
The study revealed that many members of the journalism in a social network are not keen on identifying themselves with their profession. But journalists are likely to enter information about their place of work. Self-determination in the profession is very closely connected with the industry. As it has been noted in the conclusion the identifiers which have been used to substitute the journalism are very fragmented. This suggests that the search for unifying meaning, the understanding of the basic principles and values of the changed areas continues.
