Founding fathers of PR: first practical experience of public diplomacy

Abstract

The author focuses on the international communication activities of the "PR historic fathers" – E. Bernays and I. Lee. The author examines little-known pages of the history of using the public diplomacy techniques to change the public opinion of Americans to many states, including the USSR. E. Bеrnays and I. Lee used these technologies in numerous international projects
The newness of the research lies in fact that the author explores the relationship between public relations and public diplomacy arguments it with the practices of famous founders of public relations.
The article analyzes the works of renowned experts in this field, which consider the commonality of the concepts of "public diplomacy" and PR. The article draws attention to the proximity of the definitions, the data of public diplomacy and PR, as well as commonality of their goals, tasks and values. This allows us to draw a conclusion about the essential relationship of public diplomacy and public relations
In today's society, where the role of PR and public diplomacy tools is growing, the bright and expressive projects of outstanding PR experts give us a new idea of the resources of public diplomacy and, possibly, interesting ideas for relevant international projects that promote international communication.
