Abstract

In the following interview, Anatoly Lysenko (Soviet and Russian TV journalist, one of the first Russian TV producers and TV media managers) shares his views on the history of Soviet and Russian TV channels, the educational foundation of journalism, as well as on the links between profession, education and science.
Anatoly Lysenko was a journalist employed by the Soviet Central Television. During the last years of the Soviet Union he was one of the media managers and cofounders of the All-Russia State Television and the Radio Broadcasting Company. During the 1990s, he also participated in the reconstruction of TV-Center, now the fourth biggest TV channel in Russia. Since 2012, he has been a Chief Executive Officer of the Public Television of Russia, launched by the decree of Anatoly Medvedev.
Anatoly Lysenko gives his review on the differences and similarities of the situation between launching these three TV channels and describes the nuances of the media management of these channels. He gives a brief professional analysis of Public Television in different countries, such as the U.S.A., the United Kingdom or Germany, and explains why all these models would collapse for the Public Television of Russia. He also tells about his colleagues in the TV industry, remembers the crucial moments for Soviet and Russian Television and the general history behind them.
On the 14th of April 2017 Anatoly Lysenko celebrates his 80th birthday. Throughout his life he has influenced the story of Russian Television and provided a professional foundation for the Faculty of Communications, Media and Design (National Research University – Higher School of Economics, Moscow, Russia).
