Abstract

The Russian National Conference “Modern Screen Worlds” was held at the State Institute for Art Studies between the 21st and 23rd of April, 2016. Among the participants to the conference were leading academic researchers in the fields of Culture Studies, Art Studies, Media Studies, Sociology and Anthropology, as well as Social Sciences.
The conference covered a wide range of topics and questions, dedicated to the different aspects of screens, screen culture and screen worlds. Various media phenomena were discussed during the speeches of the participants, such as media threats, media myths, media toolkits, media fears, new media, social media and also transmedia.
Different screen arts were also covered by several speakers: there were researchers of computer games, cinema and television.
TV was analysed with reference to various aspects, such as the values of the audience and its paradigms of values. Various formats, such as documentary and TV advertisements were also discussed by the academic society.
The conference showed a high demand in the research for modern screen arts in a wide range of questions, as there are still no established points of view about the actual role and impact of screens in Russia, so many topics are still need to be analysed.
The conference will also be held on 19-21 April 2017 at the State Institute for Art Studies. The main title this year is “Magic of Screens”
